This has to be one of the most amazing apps out there. Using your GPS location, the app will tell you places of interest, amazing places to eat and shop as well as warn you of pitfalls. On the way back there is a detailed history of the island from pre-Cook to post world war 2.
We completed The Road to Hana which is located on this App. The one thing that was confusing was that pressing Hana seemed like just a review. It turns out that when you start driving the detailed directions start. There is no need for Maps, Google Maps, wifi or 3G. The app uses your onboard GPS. And if you are staying at one of the resorts, the App will guide you back to your hotel.
What is amazing about this App is that the guide literally knows every nuance of the trail, including literally telling you how to avoid nasty accidents. The road to Hana is filled with over 600 turns and multiple one lane bridges and intersections. This App guides you through them. It also tells you where not to stop and the best places to go for taking pictures and shopping.
Hana itself was not so much of a tourist destination. It is a small town with wonderful people who live relatively normal lives. It is quaint in that it tries to preserve a lot of Old Hawaii and I felt like an intruder at times. As the narrator states midway through the tour The Road to Hana is really about the journey and everything in between, including talking to family, eating fish tacos, banana bread and gelatos and conversing with the locals. The App really details this and is representative of a great journey.
This is one of the best apps I have ever used. It is worth every penny. If you are in Maui and clueless about what to do, this is better than a guided tour of the island. Well done!
